I will always remember when my daughter’s pediatrician told me that the only toy a baby needed was a good activity gym.

At that moment, I realized I had done it all wrong. The only thing I didn’t buy was an activity gym! So, the boyfriend and I went on the search for the perfect activity gym and just like everything else that you buy for your baby, there were way too many options to choose from…

How was I supposed to pick the perfect activity gym when they were all so different? Was a 60$ activity gym going to be as good as a 120$ one?

Let’s say I learned quite a bit from visiting all the baby store. So, here are my tips and tricks to pick the best activity gym for your baby;

1. THE SIZE OF THE ACTIVITY GYM

You could easily opt for a smaller activity gym, but your baby will soon become too tall for it. Pick one that’s a little bit bigger at that will allow your baby to use it for a longer period of time.

2. MUST HAVE A MIRROR

Babies love to look at them self in the mirror and it is important for their development. As soon as they turn 6 months old they become more curious and wonder who they are.

3. A FLAT MAT

You want to look for an activity gym with a flat mat, so no padding. Even though they seem to be comfortable, they are not very useful for your baby. Sooner than you think, your baby will be rolling over and the padded mat will limit their movement.

4. A HIGH VARIETY OF TOYS

The activity gym should have a wide variety of toys, such as; toys to pull on, some that create music, others that move or lighten up, different textures, etc.

5. REMOVABLE TOYS

To keep things interesting for baby, it’s important to be able to move, swipe or add toys to their activity gym.

6. WASHABLE

Make sure the mat and the arch can be separated, this will allow you to wash the mat when necessary.

7. MY FAVORITE MUST HAVE

While looking through all the options, I had a crush on one of the features. Having an arch that can flip from side to side allows for the baby to play on their back or sitting up. You can also move the arch to help the baby’s head-turning. The only activity mat I found with this feature is the Skip hop!

That’s exactly the one it purchased; the Skip hop.

Hope these tips and tricks will help you find the perfect activity gym for your baby’s development.
