Halloween is around the corner and just like you, we are sending our thoughts the kids and to the parents of kids with food allergies. For the most part, I would call myself lucky because my family and I don’t have any food allergies. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t show compassion to the ones who do have food allergies. Halloween is one of the most magic celebrations, but for some of those children it can quickly become a nightmare.
Can you picture a kid that cannot touch or eat any of the candy they just collected? How sad can that be? As if being allergic all year round wasn’t enough. Now they will have to live another disappointment at Halloween. What if we could give them this one special day?
Well, you can! By making a simple gesture you can make the difference in the life of those children.
Launched in 2014, the Teal Pumpkin Project promotes an allergy free Halloween for everyone to enjoy. The movement first started in the United States where it’s now very well known.
You can participate by painting your pumpkin in teal and displaying it outside your home. This way you’re committing to providing non-food treats for trick-or-treater with food allergies. I can be stickers, bouncing balls, pencils, playing cards, etc.
While being a very good cause and allowing the children with allergy to enjoy a fun and safe Halloween it can also be a fun family activity!
So, what do you think? Do you feel like being part of the Teal Pumpkin Project?
