I have to admit that I tested this recipe many times before reaching the right consistency of oat milk. This vegan milk is becoming more and more popular in the grocery stores and the coffee shops. I believe part of the reason why oat milk is gaining in popularity is because, once you’ve created the milk you’re left with little residue compared to nut milk.
I love oat milk as it is very thick and creamy, similar to %3.25 cow milk. Without further ado, here is my recipe of homemade oat milk.

Ingredients
For the oat milk
6 cups of cold water
1 ½ cup of steel-cut oats (or rolled oats)
3 dates, pitted
1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract
1 pinch of salt
Preparation
- In a large bowl, add the steel-cut oats and cover with lukewarm water. Keep aside for 5 to 10 minutes. This step is to allow the steel-cut oats to slightly puff up.
- Using a strainer, strain and rinse the oat.
- Add all the ingredients “For the oat milk” to a high-speed blender and blend for about 1 minute.
- Using a very fine strainer, strain the oat milk to remove any oat remnant, once this step completed, strain for a second time.
- Enjoy cold!
